Our Apiary

We currently have a number of colonies of Italian honey bees in our apiary after starting with two packages in 2018. Our focus in the first year was on learning and on keeping the bees healthy, we did not try to harvest any honey this first year. We grew to five colonies but went into the winter with only three colonies; having one abscond and combining a weak colony into a stronger one. Thankfully we successfully over wintered all three colonies.

In 2019, we continued to learn while we grew to six colonies; primarily by making "splits".  Again, we weren't specifically focusing on harvesting honey. Instead, we wanted to ensure the bees had plenty of  honey for their own purposes. However, in the end we were able to harvest a bit of honey for our personal use and to sell to our customers.
